I first heard of Xavier Nuez at the Dogwood Festival here in Atlanta. His photos actually lured me into his booth and I never forgot his name. He's done a whole series on alleys which were fantastic. I love it when artists show beauty in othewise ugly things. To me it supports the idea that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. A place, person, etc. may look dirty and rejected, but it doesn't mean that there's no beauty or value in it. (My classmate Jeremy Barton recently did the same thing with abandoned places in Georgia, check it out) According to Xavier's website, he wanted to "create monuments out of these shunned spaces." Mission accomplished.
